Support to Families of Persons with Disabilities

Unison completed the implementation of the project "Suppot to Families with Disabilities in Armenia" supported by The BEARR Trust (U.K.) Our project was aimed at helping 60 families of PWDs by increasing their skills on preserving the family, establishing healthy relationship among all family members and meeting the "special" needs of those who have a disability. To do this, Unison in partnership with the Family Counseling Center NGO held 6 workshops for PWDs and their family members.

 65 People with Disabilities (PWDs) and family members of PWDs from 60 families participated in the workshops. They gained new knowledge on how to keep their families strong, how to behave in stressful situations etc. Therefore, not only the participants of the workshops but also their families have also benefited from the grant. Altogether, the number of beneficiaries is approximately 250 people (as the average number of members of families is 4). All of the 65 participants received certificates, and the 60 families also received the aid packages at the end of the workshops.

The participants developed an understanding of the foundation of a healthy family regardless of various conditions and challenges. Common stereotypes and existing risks were discussed. The workshops were held in an interactive manner, with active involvement of participants as partners rather than as passive audiences, thanks to several games and other activities moderated by the facilitators. The participants also got information about various support organizations.
