Accessible Environment for All!

Today Unison NGO conducted a conference titled “Accessible Environment for All!” at Armenia Marriott Hotel, with participation of 70 representatives of state and non-governmental organizations from Yerevan and all of the 10 regions of Armenia.

Representatives of the National Assembly and Government as well as several leaders of international organizations also attended the event. A press-conference was held prior to the conference. This event was part of two grant projects supported by the Eurasia Foundation and USAID, the World Bank Armenia and the Armenian Branch of the Open Society Institute – Assistance Foundation (OSIAF).

Unison team presented to the audience the draft law on accessibility of public places and transportation for people with limited mobility. After a discussion, the participants submitted their suggestions aimed at improving the draft law. Leaders of 24 disability NGOs signed an appeal to the National Assembly and Government encouraging the state officials to review the draft law and adopt it. The conference was widely covered by the leading Armenian mass media outlets.
