2006-11-03
Today Unison NGO team visited Vanadzor to participate in a talk show on the Lori TV on the topic of “Disability and Human Rights”. Representatives from several NGOs, such as Helsinki Civil Assembly branch in Vanadzor, Lusastgh NGO, the Union of Deaf People of Lori marz, as well as Valeri Jaghinyan, a representative from the regional governor’s office participated in the discussion.
The main message delivered by the Unison team was that people with disabilities should have an opportunity to live independently and as full members of society. This idea fulfills the global aim of the organization to promote human rights approach to the disability, rather than medical and social aid approach.
The discussion was interactive. The representatives of the local NGOs spoke about the challenges they face in their work, their struggle for better opportunities and the solutions they see. Such discussions will continue in the upcoming talk shows on more specific topics.
