2012-08-03
Unison NGO is now 10 years old. To celebrate this important anniversary, a festive ceremony in Erebuni Plaza Business Center was held on July 4th. Donors and supporters of Unison, top government officials, partner organizations, past and present employees, the winners of various competitions organized by Unison, the persons with disabilities who Unison helped gain employment, and simply our friends joined us at this celebration.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Unison celebrates the numerous accomplishments the organization achieved during its first decade of fruitful work. Founded with the mission to support people with disabilities (PWD), Unison has successfully implemented dozens of projects aimed at combating discrimination and challenging the stereotypes towards people with disabilities, promoting their human rights, addressing accessibility issues, increasing their participation in the social and cultural life of the country, enhancing education and employment opportunities, and, in general, improving the quality of life of Armenian PWD.
As mentioned in the speech given by Mr. Roger Strauch, one of the key sponsors of the organization, Unison has not only supported hundreds of people, but also significantly changed the public perceptions of PWD. Other persons congratulating Unison with official speeches included Ms. Jemma Baghdasaryan, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Issues, Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan, the Chairman of Red Cross Armenia, and Ruzanna Zakaryan, the Head of Social Welfare Department of the Yerevan Municipality.
The event was not merely comprised of official speeches. Paros Chamber Choir congratulated Unison with musical performance, while the puppet doll named "Mr. Unison" and a renowned illusionist Arayik created an atmosphere of light and joyful celebration. At the end of the event, a quiz-game was organized and the winners were awarded with gifts from Unison.
